New (to me) shock, really bad pitting, advice please :)

I picked up a new shock from eBay (from an Aprilia RS250). I was going to send it off for a rebuild, but I have taken it apart this evening, got the spring off, and there is some really bad pitting behind the rubber bumper.

Is it possible to get the chrome part of a shock re-chromed, or is it not worth it? I guess you can get anything done if you are prepared to pay for it, but is it worth it?

Thanks.

I agree, and if you take care of it from now on, it should be right.
