my NC29 is having some major issues, it just seems to have happened out of the blue too, most of my electrics just stopped working and the engine sounds like its about to run out of fuel when taken over 6k (although it still rides, just noisily and with little power) the only working electrics are the headlight and starter, the rest just stopped working, including all my instrument lights, rear lights, indicators and all. im guessing from all those failures that its something to do with the electrics but i have no idea what, it shouldnt be the reg/rec as it was changed out for one from a blackbird by the previous owner. any help would be greatly appreciated

check the fuse box (NC29 top Left in nose cone) i bet ya that the fuse to your dash, horn, indicators and.... the 112MPH speed limiter has blown. when riding it, it doesnt get much over 30mph?...
the reason it sounds like abag of spanners at 5-6K rpm is due to the limiter not sending a signal to the CDI unit. the CDI unit then cuts power to 2 spark plugs.

keep an eye on that fuse. if it goes with in a day-week get the electrics checked as there will be a short/bad earth causing the fuse to blow.

didnt even last that long, went about 2 miles before blowing again, guess ill have to start looking at what else could be wrong

they dont often blow from age.

check the wiring for ALL of these. your looking for shorting wires (burnt bits?) wires that look broken or holding on with a few threads. bad earths.
last time i had this happen, it was my LED sidelight bulb had blown, was shorting out and melted its holder.

thanks for your help mate, think ive now found the source of the prob (i hope) the right hand headlight connector was all melted around the earth wire, but the left switchgear is dodgy too, but i hope its not that as the screw is stuck and will not move (ive tried everything) so the only option would be to smash it off with a hammer and chisel. but most important of all can i just disconnect the headlight that has the issue and keep using the bike without the fuse blowing as i really need it for work tomorrow

i know exactly how ya feel. bike is my only transport too.

you maybe able to salvage the headlight connector.
cut away the melted bits and see whats left.
see if you can get the crimp out of the melted connector thats caused the melting.
if you get it out, cut the crimp off, cut away the melted out bit of the wire and find a crimp that fits the headlight and the connector.
crimp it on wire and slot back in to connector. if it moves out when you plug it back on the bulb, cheat and put a blob of glue on the connector to hold the crimp in!
Switch gear.....
wait till day light and see if you can cut a slot on to the screw head, then use a screwdriver.

what *is* dodgy with switch gear? is the dip switch not working?
if thats the case i am guessing you have higher wattage bulbs fitted in your bike?
NC29 standard is 35/55W. standard car shop bought H4 bulbs do not fit (with out a bodge to the bulb) and you MUST mod the headlight relay and fuses to avoid melting the dip switch internals
