Hi guys, new to the forum, just bought an nc24 vfr 400 from a friend, he's the only guy I've seen with one of these bikes and at £350 I thought I'd got a bargain, he says it runs well, just has a slight misfire when it gets warm?! I've only ever ridden my not so trusty cagiva mito before now, so looking to get my test done soon and get out on my new toy soon. Since I've had the bike I've changed spark plugs, dropped the oil and changed the oil filter, that's it so far.
Seen hyperpro progressive front suspension kit, as my front suspension is very soft, so am seriously in need of help in that aspect. Also seen a scorpion end can to replace my scratched and badly painted original that's on the bike, and seen some aftermarket fairing that I'm debating purchasing,

It's very tempting with a new bike, especialyl your first purchase but put out buying fork springs and cans and everything for the time being.

The NC2x doesn't command such a good price as the later NC30/35 which had much improved suspension, brakes and frame in comparisson.

Give it a proper service, check the valve clearances (they are adjusatble on the 24 so no need to buy shims)

Strip and clean the carbs and get them in spec, replace the fuel vaccum hose too as that can cause shitty issues and its cheap to do.

Check airbox / filter is ok and should run like good.

Check the charging system is ok too as these often go tits up with neglect and age.

Best advice I can give you is get it running ok, ride it for the summer and think about what you want to do with it, if you sink a lot of money into it now you'll never get it back and might feel stuck with the bike.

If you enjoy it and its your choice to do so then go for it, but as these bikes ages (the nc24 is knocking on 27 years old now) they start to require a lot of money to be sunk into them to bring them back to good running order.
