three yellow wires smoking ?

Hi, all it is that I started my nc30 before to go out whilst in the process of putting my helmet and gloves on I smelt a strong burning smell so I had a look around the bike and noticed there was some smoke pouring from the righthand side of the bike. so I took the right hand mid fairing panel of and notice a small yellow connector block with three yellow wires on each end was burnt so I started it again and smoke started pouring from the block so I turned the bike off and left it.

does anybody know why it is doing this? thanks.

not sure wat.the plug is for but obviously somethings wrong.unplug it clean it well and check no wires are touching.u might find the plug had melted tho.hth

thanks for the reply yeah the plug is melted abit not much tbh the wires are coming from the stator just wondering if this has anything to do with it don't really know could be anything from that to the reg/rectifier.

personaly i would check the stator/rotor and make sure nothing has got in there.clean/check all.the wires but more than likely rr problems..good luck

Sounds like your reg/rec is toast mate, id avoid running the bike again till its fixed or you will write off the alternator too.

hi guys cheers for the reply's I only replaced the reg/rec and battery around 5 months ago could this still go this early ?

The connector is well known for burning out.
Have a look inside if you can get it apart.

The brass male/female blades corrode and cause a high a resistance joint and the high current present is enough to char the metal and the wiring insulation. The heat is enough to melt the plastic connector, as the blades are incased within the connector body with little air cooling.
New connectors and blades are available from VWP [Honda do a repair kit including wiring tails] but a better solution may be using separate bullet snap connectors.
If using crimp joints, then solder then as well, the original crimp may be a part of the problem.

Good stuff. Have you done any checks on the electrical system?

Countless times peeps on here have fixed up the electrical damage only for the faulty electrical component (battery, generator, reg/rec, wiring etc) to continue to destroy parts. It's the #1 most common fault on NC30/35's.

Id say if you replaced the reg/rec and battery 5 months ago then its probably your alternator burning them out. My regulator went about 3 years ago i swapped it with a cheap second hand £13 one i got off this site and its been going strong ever since!
