Forks farked?

Hi Guys,

So yesterday I was cleaning my NC30 with a degreaser type cleaner made for Bangkok bathrooms that hurts my hands if it gets on them, and sprayed some on the forks and it stripped away the "shininess" of the fork tubes. You can see it is still a bit shiny where it goes into the lower section. Is it farked? Can I shine it back up? Should I leave it?

Please be nice, I am relatively new here, and still new to motorcycling, so calling me an ass will only reinforce what I called myself many times yesterday after seeing my shiny forks go dull.

Cheers,
John

BTW, how do I attach a photo?

read the first post about pictures.

the forks are chromed, did you make sure the cleaner was safe for use on chrome? if its that strong it hurts your hands i wouldnt use it near a bike.. many chemical cleaners can destroy aluminium and chrome.

Perhaps its just cosmetic, especially if they dont leak but if its made them dull but perhaps its not possible to make them shine again.

Beat me to it Neo!

As above really.

Get a picture up, ideally high resolution close up.

:plus: ^ what they say. If the fork seal don't leak it sounds like a cosmetic issue rather than anything else.

If you want to be sure there are a set for sale in the sales/wants area (viewtopic.php?f=78&t=46241)

I didn't check if it was safe for chrome, but I wasn't trying to get it on the chrome bits anyway, but wind and impatience got it there. The label doesn't say anything about chrome, nor is there a way to find it on their website. I am sure it is just cosmetic, as I have put about 100km on it since then and no leaks. So how can I get it shiny again?

pay to have the rechromed?

unless its just a residue which you can polish off but becareful of metal polishes they might make it worse.. best to test on an inconspicious part.
