Diarrhea In Me Tooobes
Hi Everyone,
just overhauling my forks and i want to ask your advice. Is this the normal state of old oil to be dumped....

Or has something contaminated the internals?? (couldn't see any pieces of corn or any tomato skins so that's good I suppose)

can't understand why it's so dirty. The forks didn't leak at all and there is no signs of corrosion on the components.

That's what 20 odd year old fork oil looks like, you should of seen the eerr stuff that cam out me KLR!!!!!!! That'll take some washing out!!!!! I use diesel or petrol, tho really you'd be best stripping them and cleaning them properly!!!!

Re: Diarrhea In Me Tooobes
I'm doing the RO upgrade so the forks are currently stripped to component level and all the internals are being cleaned. You can't disassemble the damper rod so its taking a while to flush that clean with brake cleaner.
Something tells me that the oil has not been changed in the 20 years the bikes been about!
I'll have them like new by the weekend... Hopefully.

Re: Diarrhea In Me Tooobes
That is exactly what it has looked like when I have stripped a couple of pairs of NC30 forks, and on both occasions I have just put it down to the original 20+ year old oil and neglect.
A full strip, bloody good clean up and replacement of any knackerd parts (plus Ricks updated springs) and some fresh oil and you won't recognize the bike as the same one that you ride before.......in a good way

Re: Diarrhea In Me Tooobes
I'd say it was typical of oil that was well past it's replace by date. I'd have thought it more likely that stuff would escape from dodgy forks rather than somehow get inside them.
