The inlet rubbers and therefore the carba are an elongated circular hole.
The 3jt CV carbs aren't too bad though, most people use a base on the fuel tank to form an airbox. Then a snorkel to the front fairing and put on a set of belmouths on.
If your going racing its easier to buy a racebike than convert a road bike.

The 600 rubbers bolt onto the 400 head ok but you'll have to elongate the inlets as EC says, although it's not as big a job as it sounds- there's probably around 4mm of material either side that needs to be removed and you won't need to remove material all the way down, probably 10-15mm down and blend it back into the original shape of the 400 inlet.
It's probably easier, but also more expensive, to buy a race bike that a road bike but on the other hand if you convert a road bike at least you know how the thing has been put together! I've had some shockingly badly screwed together road bikes

BDK Racing produce a ram air kit for the 3TJ - it can help a tuned engine breath a bit better.
