purchased an RVF and I need some info
1. whats the standard size chain and sprockets?, the bike is geared 15/38  at the minute but i feel this aint right as its derestricted and wont fill the clock. Good and quick up the gears though.
2, the fan is on a switch, I presumed the sensor was gone so i replaced the fan sensor but the fan is still not coming on.Is there a relay for this?
any help appreciated

the standard sprocket and chain size is
15t front and 38t rear chain:525 102 links
what do you mean the fan is on a switch?are you referring to the thermo switch?
there is a fuse for the fan 10amp.
the thermo switch which is situated in the lower rad controls when the fan comes and if you have replaced this.
a good way for testing if the thermo switch is faulty is by removing the connector that goes into the switch and earthing it by using a jumper wire and with the ignition on the fan should come on.

the thermo switch is bypassed to an on/off switch so when the bike starts to warm up i have to switch the fan on using this switch, its not out the window annoying but id rather have it right, ive tried 4 different thermo switches and none of them worked, i got them off a local breaker and i tought what are the chances of them all being fooked. Ill get one from a honda garage and that will tell the tale.thanks anyway. The bike is only hitten 180 kph while ive heard there good for 135mph ,thats why i tought it may be the gearing thats different
thanks

Does it stop revving out or it is hitting a wall at 180 kmh?

Sorry for the patronising Q - but it is deffo an RVF rather than VFR? VFR come with 112 mph/ 180 kmh restriction.

RVF is 15/38 as standard though/

Was it ever restricted for a 33bhp rider?

Welcome to the site, stick about - have a look at some of the stuff... :D

Are you UK based? Where did you import it from? RVF was sold in UK as std and so is not restricted as standard.

Do you know if anyone else has fiddled with the carbs etc with it?

Let's have some pics :poke:

Whatever you need to know..there are so many knowledgeable people on here you cannot fail to get your answers :ugeek:

wont' be restricted at the carbs if it was a fresh import.

as was said.. where are you? if your near to me i don't mind taking a peek.

15/38 is same as mine too... thats standard.

when do you switch the fan on? if you've replaced the thermo-switch and reconnected the wiring how hot have you let it get? the fan don't come on until the temp is near the very top.

Fill the clock? How fast have you had out of it? and when it gets to that speed how does it behave?

Just in case you weren't aware, the thermo switch for the fan is on the left of the lower rad, there is another sensor for the temp gauge on the left side into the thermostat 'bottle' in between the V of the engine.

This is the thermo switch for the fan and how the wiring should run.

This is the sensor for the gauge just below the pipe leading from the top of the radiator

what to do is remove the wire that goes into the switch and earth it,if this turns the fan on then there is a problem with the thermo switch.
usually people fit a piggy back crimp to the thermo switch so they can install a switch to bring on the fan whenever but still keep the original thermo switch working as it should.the fan comes on at about....96-98 degrees i think.
the temp guage does have to go up very far before the fan comes on.

I live in ireland, the bike was imported from japan and I had to apply for a tax book which meant there was no previous owners here or the uk. that would pretty much rule out carb restriction.it goes just over 180kph and doesnt seem to have much more in it,
the bike is running fine at this speed
As for the thermo switch im gona get one from honda so I know its working and see what happens

oh yeah the bikes a 97
