I want to replace my reg/rec SH633-12 on my 1994 cb400 super four. Can anyone link me to a newer version ( Mosfet ) if possible that will fit my bike?

I recently fitted a Shindengen FH-020AA To my superfour. It will not fit in the stock position. I did manage to mount it on a small bracket under the tail cowl. It is probably 50% bigger overall then the stock one and requires a bit of cutting into the factory loom as well. Haven't had much chance to test it but I no longer get flickering lights at idle anymore.



As you can see it is just a little bit bigger.... Also I wired it up directly to the battery on its own Fuse. The only main changes you will need to make to the factory harness is to unplug the 3 pin connector from the Generator coils, cut the end off. Extend the wiring, I used a old power cord that the dog decided to chew one day, bonus of being AC rated for 10A and double insulated. The factory RR plug does not need to be hooked up if you do this as there will be no AC from the generator and the DC side will not be able to short out as its protected by the plug. Maybe tape it up if your concerned with it.

No worries. The manual that comes with it is pretty clear on how to install it. The hardest part was making the new bracket for it to sit on.

Ok my replacement RR and wiring kit arrived today. Ill have to figure out where to mount it now. Any chance of a pic of where you mounted yours Gidanski? There is a slight chance I can mount it in the stock position but it will mean having to move the fuse box and the starter relay.

I will have to take the tail fairing and light out to get pics of it but I can do that for you tomorrow. But I ued some 3/4(I think) wide alloy strapping, Well, I would call it straping. Bent it to a L shape and had around 1 and a 1/4 of lenght then bent it approx 90 degrees then had it the width of the RR. Drilled it for the screws I used then went to the bike, Took the Tail light out (Had no cowl at this stage due to incident) and used a few self tapping roofing screws through the plastic to secure it.

Will make more sense when I take photos of it for you. And of course the wiring shouldn't be too difficult. Just make sure the wire you use to extend the RR is rated for 24v and 10A or more as the voltage in the wires can get up higher then that. Hence the use of some old extension cable wire for me. Then again I do err on the cautious side. Plus the new RR can generate 30A constantly depending on stator wiring size. 3 phase means 10A per phase. There is also the option of just running the wires to the stock RR plug if you do want to do that to make things easy. Not sure how you would go about getting a plug but then your not modifying the loom.

Will need to wire positive from the RR to the Red/white, Negative to the Green/black (Think its green and black from memory), then the yellow to a phase each on the RR. then you can wire the fuse to the posotive output of the RR and have it fused on both ends, Using the stock 30A fuse on the starter switch and the new one directly on the RR.

Thanks Gidanski. Dont worry about the pic if its too much hassle. I just dont want to do a botch job on this. I also ordered wiring from http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Elec_ ... ctors.html so it makes things alot easier. I hope to fit the new RR on Saturday & Sunday if need be.

IT's not too much hassle. I just havent got aroud to doing it as we have a staff member off sick at the moment so I am doing extra work and hours. More money is good but I leave when the sun is rising and get home as its setting. Plus Its been windy cold and crap where I live so get home and fall into bed. Only have a half day tomorrow so I will get round to doing it then.

Dont worry about it. Im 99% sure im going to mount it in the stock position. It means moving the fuse box and starter relay but I think its just about manageable. Ill also have to trim down the cooling fins on the RR so the cover can fit back on the bike. Ill take pics as I go and post them when the job is done.

I tried and failed

The new rr will fit in stock position bit its too tight and compromises the protection on other wiring in there. So it looks like im fitting it in the tail. Im about 5 inch short of alternator cable though. Ill have to try your method of using old extension cable Gidanski
