Big End Bearing gone - rough price??

As above, something went wrong with the bike, I got it recovered to save limping it home, got my mobile mechanic out today and it's the number 3 big end bearing.
I know this is a vague question but can anyone give a rough estimate of how much I'm looking at for a fix?
He's gonna look up parts and get back to me with a price.. I know it's gonna be bloody expensive, but it'd be worth having a rough idea so I can perhaps phone around and compare a few quotes...
It's a 1990 CBR400RR NC23
Cheers.

The main cost is likely to be labour. suspect the shells, gaskets and so on will be coming in around £100 - the labour probably somewhere like £300. Depends on whether you drop the engine out yourself, take the head off and deliver a short block to the shop doing the work.
Or..you man up, get the parts, get the OK from the wife/girlfriend/folks and do it on the kitchen table..

I've got very limited mechanical skills to be honest dude, and limited spare time..
With the potential labour costs and the chance of follow-up issues after the repair it's looking easier to replace the engine

Would have to say if you cant do it yourself then i would be looking for a 2nd hand engine. Not to hard a job to do once the engine is out of the frame but unless your sure of what your doing best source a running 2nd hand engine.

@ Smithy - oh yes, get a spare motor, fit that - easy. My NC30 motor got a rumble and is still sat on my bench awaiting me taking the time and ballache to deal with it.
I got a new motor...the best way forwards
