Had Chinese fairing on the bike couple months now and when I had gone to take the seat off a few weeks back the lock broke and just was spinning around. In my stupidity I left it and the other day broke down with what seems an electrical problem most likely battery. Problem is I now can't remove the back to get to anything!!
I've unscrewed 2 bolts under the seat as could just get a spanner under but the back won't release!
Urgent suggestions required as I commute on the bike and can't have it off the road for long!!!
Thank you!!!

Can you pull the lock out of the fairing as it's loose?

If so I'd get in that hole with a spanner or something and push the mechanism to release the seat.

No lock doesn't come out, and although I can get my hand under the seat moving what appears to be the latch for the back end of the seat doesn't do anything! How something so small can be so major!!! Will have another go over the weekend however I fear a more drastic measure may have to be taken!!!

I had this ages ago, think I removed the fairing bolts/seat to be able to get a pair of long nose pliers on the cable and give it a tug.

Hiya

Ivy's bf here.

It looks as if the actual lock under the pillion seat has become faulty. I've removed the 2 front bolts on the rear seat so now my hand can get in there and actually move the lock that the cable is attached to under the seat. This isn't releasing the pin :?

I can't think of anything else other than getting a little dumpy screwdriver under the seat and actually trying to unscrew the round ring that's attached to the seat. It'sthe only way we can remove the seat whilst the lock remains behind just so we can sort the battery and TRY to find a new lock.
Ay other suggestions would be helpful

Is it the mechanism at the front (where the lock goes) or the mechanism at the back (that actually secures the seat) that seems to be faulty?

If it is the front one and you can get in there, bypass the mechanism and pull directly on the cable. As long as the cable has not snapped or become detached there is vertualy nothing to go 'mechanicaly' wrong at the back end.

Remember when you are forcing your hands under the rear seat to get to the mechanism / cable you are effectivly pushing up on the seat, hence creating a geometric lock against the locking hook, which is probobly therfore holding the lock shut even when you move the mechanism/cable.

If you can get hold of the cable with some pliers from either the front of the pilion seat or even better from the side (by the exhaust hanger sort of area), you can get you hands out of the way so the seat is as flat as possible then pull on the cable whilst pushing down on the back of the seat to help take any pressure of the locking arm.

Both mine need this 'push down' to release the rear seat, one more than the other - which needs a fair bit of jiggling, but always with the emphasis on downward pressure until the hook releases.

Gook luck
