I have a 1995 Honda Superfour 400cc with a damaged throttle cable (at least I think it's the throttle cable and not the idle cable.. errr, I'll double-check that later) that needs to be replaced. But the cable is a real pain to get at. The tank is off but it looks like the air-box has to come out too!

Is there an easy way to get at it? I'm not even sure how to the airbox out since it goes through both sides.

Well anyway, hello all and thank you.

First off remove the tank.
When I changed mine (92 model) I took the cables from the twist grip end first this allows a bit of play at the carb end,
Then slacken off the locknut from the cable and then remove the adjusting screws then it is a case of wangling the nipple end out of the carrier do the one closest to the cyl head first as you will have to pull the other cable to open up the carbs and then keep the carbs open while wangling the nipple out of the carrier , fitting is the reverse of this procedure.
Really its just a bit of logic thinking and its easier done than write a description of how its done.

I ended up having to use a coat hanger to try and reach it to pop out the nipple from the return cable whenever it had snapped. Was a real pain in the ass but with a lot of playing around and trial and error I managed to get it out, phew. Getting a new one in, however, would be a lot trickier I'd imagine. Good luck though and if you work out any further tips on how to do it please do share.
