GSXR 600 k1 wont start
Hi not sure if im breaking any rules here, hope not! is so let me know and I shall remove
Having a bit of a problem with my gsxr 600 k1 and wondered if you kind people at 400GB.com could offer any advice?
the battery went flat on me the other day, which I thought was strange as less than 6mths old.. but put it down to the fact the datatool veto alarm had probably been going off when parked up at cadwell the other day.
anyway charged it over night and the next day bike seemed to be fine.
however the following day it died on me again, so got a new battery on the way home (after bumping it off and managing to get it to a local bike dealer) they also tested it for me and told me that the battery was not recieving charge.
Got home and checked the reg rec and found the plug on the reg rec (loom side mainly) was melted.
Got a new reg rec the following day and fitted it, but when I tried starting it it wouldnt start, it just makes the "whurring noise" of the butterfly valves testing and the fuel pump priming.
Checked a few things as per below:
Clutch switch
Stand switch
Battery
Getting continuity through the melted plug on reg rec
Kill switch
Main fuse
All fuses in front fuse box in nose cone
when turning the key, the fuel pump/butterfly noise is all as normal, the display is fine.. no errors displayed..
It has been suggested it could be the stator, but being from a non mechanical background im struggling to understand how this could stop the starter motor spinning up as from what i understood the stator/alternator only provide charge, which the reg rec smooths out/regulates, anyone able to explain this any better to a noob?
Also, my alarm is not beeping when pressing the buttons on the fob, and is not arming as normal after leaving the bike with key out of the ignition, could this all be caused by the immobiliser?
anyway, thanks for reading!
Thanks
Dan

Re: GSXR 600 k1 wont start
If your alarm is now non responsive then yeah it is quite probably immobalising, you are correct the charging items (stator and reg/rec) have no relation on the starter motor etc as long as the battery has enough charge to at least temporarily run them.
You will have to figure out what is wrong with the alarm, check for a fuse for it you might get lucky with an easy fix.

Re: GSXR 600 k1 wont start
Thanks for clearing that up, that's just took a few things out of the equation! Im thinking the starter relay has had it, me and a mate had a good look at it tonight, we tested is as described in the haynes and it seemed to click but spark, and didnt have continuity. im going to order one now and try that.. hopefully it will be here soon! its supposed to be nice this week!
thanks again
