Electrical Question of the Day....

So, do you guys thing an AMP connector (like Ducati uses) would be able to handle the current load from the 3 yellow alternator wires, or should I just stick with the stock connection? I'm re-wrapping and sorting my track harness and replacing all the crappy old connectors with water proof AMP connectors.
Cheers.

Yeah i would think so, but wouldnt it be easier to just make the engine loom go straight to the reg/rec rather than across the bike a couple a times?
Just a thought.
Cheers

Perhaps...I haven't given it much thought.

Connectors are rated for max currents. I haven't measured the charge current, but anything that can handle 25A or more should be plenty. I used Metri-Pack 280, which also are sealed and rated 30A.
And personally, I really like to have a connector. When the time comes and you want to disconnect it for some reason, it's going to be really annoying otherwise.

I agree. But I think I am going to run the wiring up the left side of the bike instead of crossing the v and having it join the main harness.

Oh, yeah. I did that too.

if your looking at replacing connectors for a race harness why not take a look at Deutsch Autosport connectors

Unless i am wrong the generator is rated at 350watts and is 3 phase output.
350watts at 12v is almost 30amps! Therefore about 10amps per phase is the most it will supply, 15amp connectors or better should give you enough leeway not to melt should you decide to go connector block rout.

Good to know. That is what I was worried about. These connectors should be up to the task...plus they are weatherproof.

weatherproof is good, it should stop the dreaded melt from corrosion.
I replaced mine last year or the year before as it had the melt going on and was badly corroded. I only used a cheap multi block filled with dielectric grease to keep out moisture.
I think it was rated at 15amp per terminal and when I looked last week it was still fine.
