Hi guys , I posted on here a few weeks ago regarding a reg-rec problem
Now my reg-rec and new battery have arrived i hooked it all up but now if i turn on the ignition ( just the key ) i blow the str-ign 10 amp fuse.
Is there a short some were or am i missing something ?

Check the wires to the reg/rec, mine had corroded/melted and were causing the main fuse to keep blowing even after replacing the reg!

Disconnect the CDI (actually an ignition control unit) and see if the fuse blowing stops, your dud rect/reg was overcharging the battery the excessive voltage may have damaged the it.

Yes there is a short somewhere. If you blow a certain fuse, the short is on that circuit, so dig out the circuit diagram, see what's connected to it, and start measuring. And disconnect the battery.

if you have the + and _ wrong on the reg rec you will blow the main fuse - the Yam reg recs are wired backwards on + and -

went and bought a handful of 10 amp fuses and went hunting and have found that the fuse only blows if the CDI is plugged in . Is this the smoking gun im looking for ? ( also it smells a bit funky - ie burnt )

IMHO your charging system has over-voltages the "CDI". There is a component in the "CDI" that does not take kindly to battery voltages higher than 16 volts. If this particular component has failed it can be repaired although for most owners it is easier to replace the "CDI".
