Hi All,

Picked up a NC30 about 3 months ago for a nice 'nip to the shops like a bat out of hell' bike, Have moved counrty last month and transported the bike in the back of a van (shut fuel off and disconnected battery for the move). Now im all set I went back to the bike, fuel on! battery charged and on! push start and nothing?

She turns over but before she bites the battery is flat, Tried to bump start her by selecting second pushing and dropping the clutch... nothing happened then suddenly she went but died again, strong smell of fuel so its going through the system...

Any idea??

+1 on that,

That'd be the first place to start if it was running previously, high-revving 400's are particular fussy starters when it comes to stale fuel!

do a few simple checks,is there a good spark etc.
also fresh fuel....
a little tip would be to have a spare battery that is charged up or a car just so you dont keep running the battery dead whilst trying to start it.

this what happened to me a couple of weeks ago after leaving the bike sit for 8 weeks. can petrol go off in that little time?

tbh,no!!!!!

my nc30 has sat for much longer and when i purchased the bike it had sat for goodness knows how long.

i believe even with dirty fuel it would still start,maybe not run too well and have a slight misfire to some extent.

not necessarily, VFR400 have a vacuum fuel tap, not a pump, so they need sustained suction to get the fuel

I found somewhere in the internet, a doucment from a guy in the states about modifying the fuel valve for racing (something also to do with sustaining long periods of acceleration and a vacum) Ill try it with new fuel, get an extra battery and check the spark... thanks guts ill keep you posted. - BD79

that sounds to be the HRC mod with the diagphram (sp) removal. wouldnt bother TBH

just try new fuel to start with and check for a spark.

Could be a load of different things. As others have said, start with the cheap options - fuel (cheap, ha!). Then check the breather hose on top of the tank is flowing and that the vacuum hose (little one off the fuel tap) isn't kinked/weathered/damaged.

The plugs could be fouled as it happens very easily to the little suckers. Check you've got spark to start with, and then try pulling the plugs out and drying them for a bit. And don't give it any throttle when you're trying to start it.

Wouldn't recommend the HRC fuel tap mod unless you have a fuel line quick release and unplug it when the bike's not in use. You don't really need it unless you're running carb mods etc.
