Tyre troubles!

MOTs due very soon and my rear tyre won't quite pass (we're not down to cords yet but it's about 0.5mm at the lowest point)

I can borrow a 180 55 17 from a buddy... Can it be squeezed on and will it run on it all?? Or will it just not fit!?
Thanks in advance :D

It's an NC29 std tyre size of 150 60 17

I don't mean to be rude, but you have a bike with a bald tyre. Regardless of MOT, you need a new tyre. Go and buy one.

No it wont fit. Learn what the numbers mean... example..... 185/55 r17..... the 185 is the width of the tyre in mm's, 55 is called the aspect ratio, its the percentage of the overall width of the tyre (185 in this case) which gives you the sidewall height.... 17 is the diameter of the tyre in inches. So basically no your buddys tyre wont fit but do you want to be skimping on tyres on a bike.... really?

Ok I didn't really make myself clear, iv got a lad coming to look to buy the bike, he wants tyres that he'll get 10,000 miles out of- so I just wanted to sell the bike with MOT to assure him it will pass, then he can put whatever tyres he wants on

I'd put Rosso IIs on again but he won't get the miles from them :)

(Sorry for sounding like a cheap bastard :O )

180s will not fit
160s is the max
if the buyer wants 10K mile types.. then let HIM get them after you sold the bike.

most good bike shops keep 2nds tyres in stock.. phone them and ask if they have a tyre to fit?.
ebay...
GF racing
etc..

Asking for tyres he can do 10k on is an absolutely ridiculous thing to ask a private seller. Tell him he gets what tyres come on the bike and if he wants different buy them or buy a bike from a dealer.... sounds like a twat of a buyer to be honest, one of those people that will be ringing you constantly if something goes wrong, wanting you pay etc etc

You have a very good point :) currently looking at some cheap race worn SC2s covered in chewing gum :D

Will a tyre pass a test chewed up?
