Well I guess its about time I started looking at the fairing and other plastic bits. as i hope to have a running bike in the next few weeks.

My fairing has a crack at the apex of the curve on the left had side - it would be the point where the most strain is and that is why its cracked there due to some minor impact. Will post photo if i ever get home this week.

I intend repairing and have seen a number of YouTube video repairs but they all allude tho the fairing being ABS, is this the case with our bikes? There are a number of commercially available kits for ABS welding.

I look for knowledge and advice on this issue from the learned members of the forum!???????

You can use a soldering iron and any piece of plastic that's the same to weld the fairing up. I did an ok job on my 3EN2 when I welded one of the headlight holes up to make an endurance style fairing. I bought a couple of sheets of 2mm ABS (ebay) for less than £10 and cut 3-4mm wide strips off them to make filler rods but you can use any old fairing panel as filler that you have lying around as long as it's the same type of plastic as the one you want to repair.

Make sure everything's clean and degreased with acetone and you should be ok.

The best stuff to use is a product called Plastech

I know Boris on here uses it aswell

The weld is stronger than the original ABS

After the repair has been rubbed down and sprayed you will no be able to know it has been repaired

It is possible to mould broken lugs and even small bits of missing panels

I am not 100% sure, but I believe it has stopped being manufactured, but it is still available, but is hard to find

I use Plastex http://www.repairproducts.co.uk/page20.htm to repair my fairings. The 3TJ side fairings seem to be more flexible than the usual stuff they use. Try a small area first.
It's easy to use, cut a V shaped groove where the crack is on the back of the panel, then cut in at 90deg to make a strong key and put masking tape on the painted side.



You use a drop of thinner from the dispensing bottle in the plastex dust then you can lift and place it into the crack add another drop and it will thin into the crack. It's a lot harder to describe than actually do.
