Hi,

After a few long rides I've been noticing my bike stinks of eggs, after a little research I see that it's the battery making the smell with it being over charged. I've done a few tests this morning and all seems fine with the battery not going over 14.5v when at 5k RPM, around 13.3v at idle.

I'm just wondering whether I should replace the battery even though the tests suggest it's fine? As it could also be the regulator and I see the best replacement is the R6 regulator, is there any guides for this?

Only advice I can offer is for the reg/rec - no guides needed, it's a simple swap.

I would think the battery is low on water, there sealed ish so your not supposed to top them up but you can if your very carefull, tho its prob easier and safer to buy a new one. Just makes sure all the connections are ok on the reg/rec, and keep an eye on it, maybe take bike out for half hour then test it again.
If its still metering out ok i'd leave it as is for now, but can deffo recomend the r6 reg, easy ish to do, theres loads a post on here, try a search. There not a exact plug and play swap, you have to change the plug to use a r6 reg but its easy with some patients, new spade connectors and a soldering iron.

In that case get a CBR125 reg/rec, that's definitely plug and play because I've got one. Been fine for the last 2 years.

Bike died on me today, wouldn't power the dash and the bike wouldn't turn over although when checking the battery it was at 13.4v. Got some jump leads on the terminals and it started fine so I assume it is the battery I need to replace.

Sulpher smell always equals dead battery!

Once you've replaced the battery, best to check the generator and reg/rec, you don't wanna kill the new one.

i would also suggest unbolting the reg/rec and putting some CPU thermal paste between the reg/rec and the frame. will help a heap with heat dispertion.

Replaced the battery, rode the bike for a week and I've come back from a ride today with it stinking of eggs again so I can only assume its the reg/rec overcharging it?
