Hey fellas,
Ran into an issue last week where the bike wouldn't start in gear with the clutch in and kick stand up.
I checked out the kickstand switch and its all working fine.
Anyone know what this might be?
thanks
Mike

Perhaps I should also ask, how you know the side stand switch is working fine?

So I think the suggestion would be to unplug the spade terminals on the clutch switch and then see if it will crank over? Would that do it? which way does the switch work? or should you just unplug the terminals and it should work? Try both I suppose?

The side stand switch has two functions; one is side stand down state (light ON) and bike cannot be started unless in neutral, the other is side stand up state (light OFF) and you can start bike provided you pull in the clutch. Your side stand switch is working for the side stand down state, one pair of contacts, but may not be working for the side stand up state, the second pair of contacts.
Suggest you check the side stand up mode before looking at the clutch switch.

Changed my levers for some very nice ones from jap 4 on my 35 and had the same thing. When i got round to sorting it all that was required was to re-profile the ramp that operates the clutch switch as it was just slightly taller than the levers i removed. Just put a continuity meter across the terminals from the switch with the lever removed, check it and refit the lever and check it again. If it is working but not correctly fettle the ramp back gently until the switch operates as you pull the clutch. Best sorted as a stall in traffic then find neutral to start is not what anyone needs... Hope this helps.

Not sure if it's relevant, but i have an HRC cdi, and no sidestand switch and i am only able to start it in neutral too.
I thought the HRC CDI got rid of all the issues with the side stand?

If your bike will start while in neutral then the clutch diodes are functioning.
You need to be sure that when the sidestand is UP that an earth signal appears on the green/white wire coming from the sidestand switch.
Without this earth signal the clutch switch cannot complete the start circuit. If this earth signal is present then the clutch switch is then a possible cause of the problem.
Others on this forum I believe have had the sidestand switch develop a fault whereby the down funtion is ok (sidestand lamp illuminates) but the up function is faulty.
