Hello guys,
so my dad has been kindly restoring a not so mint NC30 for me for the summer, we have discovered the chain seems to be riveted together! I'm no mechanic, but this has rung alarm bells esp after last weeks shake down...
please tell me this chain is bodged and needs replacing? they only come in a continuous piece...right???

Looks like a soft link done with a hammer to me. Are you sure they're rivets?

My mechanical knowledge is limited, my initial reaction was that I thought the chain should be continuous ? but looking on websites new chains are supplied with soft link and split links for joining the chain, hence you don't have to remove the swing arm?
I am planning a ride out with 5 mates tomorrow and are eager to take the bike, but for me safety comes first. my initial thought was that the chain might be old and someone has split the chain, taken out a link and then rejoined, to save replacing the chain, when its stretched...?

Its either a soft link or riv link, its perfectly fine,
I run a split link on my chain dont know what all the fuss is about

If you're that bothered then take it to a garage in the morning and they'll fit a new link for you.
Looks like a soft link to me, which should be fine.

to what porndog said, I also run a split link and don't see why people make a thing of it.
