Ive just brought an NC30 with a cracked frame. Most think it will be alright but ive found another frame with V5 for a good price.


How many hours would you say it will take to reframe my NC30... Im not going mad with it as its going to be a road/ track bike. Im not going to be respraying and polishing up every part.

Just switch all the bits over. at most clean all the rads out.. stuff like that.


Im an ex HGV mechanic so i can hold a spanner but never worked much on bikes before.

Is it a big job? Will i need any special tools? Will i need any special stands or anything like that.


Just a ruff estemet of how long it should take and any hot tips would be awesome and a big help

In my opinion it's not a big job if you have the right tools and equipment.

You'll need castellated sockets for the engine and swingarm mounts, and an abba stand (or axle stands) would be very helpful indeed. Rick Oliver sells the sockets (or ebay).

You could easily do it in a weekend, and probably in a full single day, but this isn't a job I would like to rush. Some bits are fiddly and you need some patience if you get it wrong (routing wiring loom for example - take pics before removal if unsure etc) and some parts may break meaning a delay (e.g. exhaust studs).

If you've worked on HGV's I imagine the actual job won't be a problem.

i agree its a weekend job and could be done in a day

lets face it , its not hard pulling it apart , a couple of hours

issues you may face will be stripped or stuck fasteners

its usually easier to remove and install the frame onto the motor than to remove or fit the motor to the frame

If it was me i would prob do sat or sunday strip down ,

try and do service items on the sunday as this allows monday to source any parts needed

valve clearances
brakes
fork soil and seals

assemble as you go and finish up the following weekend

also as cam mentioned specific attention to wires, hose and cable routing before removal will save big time on assembly

yep another vote for a days work.

and you will need the special socket and having a abba stand makes life much easier - failing that a muddy garden, just boot the thing over on its side and work on it like that lol - i have seen that done seriously.

I like the proper Honda socket, its about 20 quid but its double sided.. does the clutch and swingarm and is ok for an impact driver.
