New Clutch Cable Woes

Hi, today I thought I would do the simple task of changing my clutch cable due to noticing it starting to fray with several cut strands. As usual I had a new spare ready. Or so I thought. what followed was nearly three hours of trying to fit a cable that was obviously wrong, but hey it was marked nc29 (aftermarket). From the outset i could see there were differences but i tried rverything in vain
The main problem was the fitting to the bracket instead of a threaded stud flattened on one side with two nuts it was threaded fully round with a single nut and long nut adjuster. this long adjuster gave me no play on the cable. I even opened the bracket and fitted the adjuster into this to no avail. still no adjustment or slack.
Im now going to have to scour the area for a matching part as I need the bike for Friday night.. aaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone fitted this type sucessfully??
Here is a link to the actual type.. note the end that goes to the clutch.. this is not the same as oem. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewit ... 4438126427
