How did you get a crack in it? I'd be worried enough to get a new one quickly, or at least get it welded for a quick fix. IMO oil where it's not supposed to be is not good.
Speaking of clutch cover cracks, I got a crack in mine today! Although it was angle grinder induced and looks more like a gaping hole. The same happened to the alternator cover! Relax, it was for some carbon molding - I still feel ashamed though! Luckily the covers were on lone from Stickshift

its not that noticable, otherwise id have spotted it right away...
il definately be getting it changed asap.. just wanted to know if should be taking the bus for the next week or so...
its been down the raod at some point cos the clutch cover is rather scratched... i think it may be a result of that....

I wouldn't be taking the bus. Just keep your eye on it and get it sorted as soon as you can. You should be able to pick up a cheap one of here.
I've got one going very cheap (only minor incisions)

can't you fix the crack with some araldite? my clocks were broken on my race bike but managed to fix it with the araldite putty, works really well and sets like stone. Costs about £5
