Talking about late type here. While installing Rick-o's fork springs I noticed that on one of my fork legs there is very little rebound damping (not much force is needed to pull out the rod), the other leg has more. What can cause this?
Also I think I'll need more damping with the stronger spring installed, what are the options for that?

Are both sides adjusted the same?

When you say there's a difference in resistance when pulling the damper rods it may be just the amount of oil or both fork tops are set differently. Both screws should have something like 14 clicks of adjustment if the tops have been removed and are sitting on the damper at different positions then you'll need to reset them both the same .

The fork oil supplied in ricks kit is a good quality 10wt unless you're much heavier than average it should be ok you can use a heavier weight oil to stiffen the damping 15 or 20wt but would try the 10wt first.

What do you mean the tops are sitting differently on the damper rod?
I used 10w oil, I weigh 88kg.

Not anymore, I had to back off the damping on the good leg to equalize them.

If both sides are wound out the same number of clicks and do not result in the same damping level then I would suspect a fault in one. The shims in one of the cartridges may be stuck open. What damping do you get when both adjusters are wound fully in?

Check that both sides have 15 clicks, if not, the damper adjuster has been fitted in the wrong position on the damper rod.
Did you unscrew the fork top bolt off the damper adjuster [correct] or unscrew the adjuster off the damper rod [incorrect]
If the latter, then refit the adjusters, and by trial and error move the adjuster up or down until 15 clicks only are available.
If you did remove the adjusters from the damper rods, then both may be out of calibration.

Damping adjuster settings is always measured from fully in. If you do not get the same damping level on both forks with the adjusters set at the same number of clicks from fully in then there is something internally amiss with one of the damping cartridges.

1. Total number of clicks is usually about 15 but is not critical and is set by:

2. removing top cap from damper rod,

3. winding each adjuster fully out and then in 15 clicks,

4. then screw each adjuster back onto its damper rod slowly until it just stops turning,

5. use lock nut to lock adjuster in place.

You should now be able to wind each adjuster 15 clicks between fully in and fully out.
