fairing repair !!

Hi boys 
Just after a bit of advice. Gonna have a go at plastic welding me knackered faring. Question being what grades of wet and dry should i use (after clearing up the weld) to get to a decent surface to spray primer and then from their to spray a finish colour ????
I was thinking 600 - 800 - 1000
but what the hell to i know 
Anyone budding paint sprayers out their got some ideas ??
