I'm going to the dealers on Friday to view and possibly buy a 1995 (reg 2004) CBR400RR, I want to negotiate a fair price for it but I have no idea what a real fair price is, it's done 34000 miles and looks in good condition from photos. I've tried looking online but there isn't that many about and asking prices aren't necessarily the true value of the bike. Sorry for the awkward question but any help is appreciated!

Dealers will be wanting quite a lot for them so be prepared to put in an offer and if rejected leave them your phone number and walk away. They may ring you but they may not. Theres quite a few about so read up on what to look out for on them.

The main advantage is a 3 month warranty and having it serviced before buying, also they'll let me trade in. They want 2499 plus restrictive kit (which I need to negotiate down from 250) and admin fee (which u got taken off lost time) . Dealers always overcharge. Thats a LOT of money to spend on a Gullarm! Esp if thats the sticker price.

All garages/dealers have to offer 3 months warrenty - its the law.

I think its overpriced - less than £2k would have been my MAX + 12 months tax ( its only around £50 ) and the mot and a full service.

The restrictor kits are peanuts to buy/make its the time to fit them that costs - and how much work does a bike shop do in the the winter - not very much. They are probably out shovelling snow keeping busy.

And dont fall for the "its a classic, they can only go up in price", crap.

And whats an admin fee for?

They say the admin fee is for paperwork, all the dealers of this chain charge it, i think its just an extra charge they can take off so it makes you feel like your getting a good deal.

Bargaining points for you -

Rear sprocket chain guard is missing, which I am pretty sure is an MOT failure at a strict MOT testing Staton.

There are decals missing on the front fairing and the rear light surround (possible aftermarket fairing? This would seriously reduce its value)

Odd screen bolt which also hints that the fairing has been changed/neglected at some point.

Apart from the above - if you like it, buy it! It does seem a little steep to me though. I paid £1300 from a dealer for my G reg with 34,0000 km the year before last.

hi, you seem set on this bike but take advice and make an offer under 2k and leave it with them for a while. from what i can tell on my phone its been repainted and re decalled with Imageworks decals. Im sure if you can wait a while a good original type 7 will come up on ebay at that price. I know dealers seem to put some high prices on these bikes, living in hope i suppose.

Personally I wouldn't touch CMC with a bargepole. Especially in this case as I know the bike. They only paid £900 in p/x for it

They aren't the original decals - they are after market ones so not original - fairings have been resprayed.

It may not even be a OEM HONDA fairing.

Mine also didn't come with the front red HONDA sticker so had to buy a new one from ebay - pence but not the point.

Shouldn't the back panel were the lights are be black?

I only had a quick glance at the first post, but after studying it more I would defo go well lower than £2k. I have seen mint ones on ebay go for £2k low miles as well.
