I am in the process of overhauling an NC24 and want to drain the fuel tank. I have managed to get most of the fuel out via a syphon however some still remains and I am keen to completely drain before re-assembly. I am also unsure as to what the various outputs of the fuel tank tap are for. The large one is clearly for supply of fuel to the carbs. The horizontal (small) output I beleive is the vacuum feed, however there is another vertical small output which I have no idea what its for and I am sure from memory wasn't connected when I first removed the tank. Ideally I would like to dissassemble the fuel tap to clean the filters etc and allow me to get the remaining fuel out of the tank.

Does anybody have any good advice as to the best course of action as I do not want to damage the fuel tap seals but am keen to do a thorough job of getting all the old fuel out the tank and start fresh.

There is no filter inside the tap, only the vaccum diaphram which stops fuel flowing (even when switched to on) unless there is engine suck.

The filter is inside the tank attached to the fuel filter.. you will need to remove the tap from the tank to get the mesh filter out (if you shine a torch in the tank you should see it and see if its clean.

If you remove the tap replace the o-ring that seals the tap to the tank.

The large pipe is for fuel.

The two others are for vaccum pipe and vent.

The outermost one is for the vaccum pipe to fit to, the other is a vent that allows the diaphram to move when sucked.

Why do you want to drain it?



Cheap 1.99 brake fluid syringe and a long piece of silicon hose shoved in the tank will let you suck it all out though.
