Cam chain tensioner
Hi guys, about to start some work on my bike over the winter. I've just had the MOT done and passed... My mechanic listed a few job i should get done. Few easy thing i have done already
Main thing is my cam chain tensioner, as this is my 1st 4stroke im new to these. Basicaly mechanic said:
"Your automatic cam chain tensioner is lazy." and its noisy!
I'v been told i can buy a manual one off ebay and they are good.....What do i have to do exactly to fit one? Am i goin to have to remove tank, air box, carbs ect to get at it? will i have to drop the oil?
Is it possible to reload the automatic chain tensioner that is there?
A bit of a step by step would be great if someone has the knowledge to share im pretty handy once i know how.
thanks

Re: Cam chain tensioner
i toook the carbs and tank off to do mine real easy job, litterally 2 hex head bolts and off it comes and putting on a manual would be just as easy then adjust until tension on the chain run the bike up and adjust until the rattling stops pretty simples really, however if i am wrong then someone will be around to put me right

Yeh
i dont mind having to do that as i can clean my carbs while they are out aswell.
Did you have to drain the oil out before you removed your tensioner? I imagine being where it is i wont need to will I?

Looks nice quality.
Im not sure if the dzr one fits, worth asking for a dimension for mount holes.

Re: Cam chain tensioner
Just measured mine up there for the bolt holes at 32mm.
The guy on ebay said get back to him with exact measure and he would have a tensioner that will do the job.
Does that measurement sound right there variable, my 400 is the gk71b 85
