When my nc23 warms up ive been getting an intermittent tapping/clicking noise from the top of the engine. This only happens when the engine is warm. The bike becomes very lumpy and needs a lot of throttle to clear as it only happens at low revs and the bike kind of misifires until its above 4k RPMish. But sometimes it does not do it at all.

Ive had situations where the bike stalls on me at traffic lights as soon as i come to a stop and then takes a push start to get it going again.

The bike has recently had a new reg/rec fitted to solve battery issues, along with a new battery.

From what ive read about other engines it sounds like the valve clearances but just wanted to clarify that before stripping her down.

Or could it be something to do with the plug leads/coils/caps?

It may well be valve but in my limited experience when having these sort of noises its always ended up being a a loose manifold clamp. Worth checking. To limit noise and help you track it down get a mate to hold a rag over the exhaust for short bursts while you pop around the front for a better listen. If its not the headers check with a long screwdriiver stetherscope style. Pointy bit on the suspected area, the handle on your ear, this will enhance any tapping noises.

Thanks mate it seemed to get a hell of a lot worse in the wet last night, so im assuming it must be electrical.
Ill try your advice too though when i get a spare minute.

isolated the problem to being the fuel pump. Bypassed it and the bike runs a lot better!

Time for a new fuel pump. Anybody have any recommendations? as from what i've heard, the standard one isn't too great.
