NC30 Speedo not working
Ok so my bike isn't doing very well and constantly has problems. It keeps spluttering whilst moving, i have a feeling that that's the spark plugs which are on order as I speak.
What's bothering me at the moment is that this (very cold and foggy) morning, I started her up, as usual, got onto the road and noticed the speedo wasn't moving, there aren't any cameras on my route to work, I thought it had frozen or something. On the way home it wasn't working either, neither were the odometer and tachometer. I'm after useful information at the moment as It's pissing down and i have no hard cover to use to have a fiddle.
Thanks people!
Laurie.

Probably a fucked speedo drive cog, nothing you can fix without parts.
Could be your cable too.
Get your fairing off and inspect the speedo drive mechanism covering your front sprocket.

yeah il have to see whats going on under the fairings tomorrow. With the speedo drive mechanism, is it behind the sprocket cover? i dont know if ive got the tools at the moment to undo it, the screw heads don't look too healthy either..

Re: NC30 Speedo not working
It's not behind the sprocket cover, but mounted on it. Two allen bolts (at least, they're allens on the NC35, not sure about the 30). There's a plasticy/nylon cup on the speedo drive gearbox that fits over the sprocket bolt. These can sometimes break and get pushed up the tab they locate on the mechanism, and fail to locate on the sprocket bolt. Often come up on eBay. Or, you can go to DSS and get a new one, a bit over £6 plus VAT (the cup, not the whole assembly).

Re: NC30 Speedo not working
Thanks, I had a look yesterday, (yes, you're right it was 2 allen bolts) the gearbox that fits over the sprocket nut is fine, i disconnected it from the bike and from the cable itself, looked inside the mechanism and it was turning with the speedo gearbox fine so put it all back together, also changed the spark plugs and that has worked like a treat, no blips through the rev range at all. Today i was fiddling, as you do, thought about looking at the clocks for the speedo problem, i noticed the adapter that changes mph to mph on the bottom of the clocks was lose so i tightened that up, havnt had a chance to see if thats done anything, will check on my trip to work later
