As my speedo cable has been faulty, jumping around over 50mph i thought i would change it. got a Honda cable and it looks the same but when installing it i cant find any thing to locate it into at the bottom conection hence it dont work. Not had this problem before with the other cable and just popped into the hole and it worked, any ideas? the top locates ok in the speedo healer.

The bottom location of the speedo cable which has a slot on the end locates over a flat piece of metal that you can just see at the bottom of the hole the cable slot"s into. when i last changed mine i disconnected the top of the cable and as i fed the cable into the bottom i turned the back wheel until i could see the top of the cable turning so showing the slot had fitted over the flat of the speedo drive. you will need a paddock stand or jack to get the back wheel off the ground . I should add that often it is not the speedo cable that is at fault but the plastic widget that fits over the gearbox sprocket nut which is where the speedo drive is taken from. these are £7-50 from wemoto if yours is worn and not driving the speedo cable easy to get to just four nuts holding on the sprocket cover and remove the gearchange and you can see the plastic widget behind. i replaced my widget which was broken with an alloy one that i made as well as my cable which was also broken hope this helps rick

Thanks Rick, yep i thought it was odd that i could not locate anything into the slot. I think i was hoping it would locate itself. Maybe it is broke, damn.. ohh well more money but will recheck tomorrow before spending.

There are a few sprocket covers on ebay that have the speedo drive if your one is broken at about £ 20 but i bet it will be just the plastic widget worn so not transmitting the drive best of luck rick

Are you sure its the cable and not the plastic drive which connects onto the sprocket nut?

Just sounds like its doing what mine was when the plastic had worn out in the middle

Yes, this is the plastic widget we have mentioned in the above posts. Guess i need a new one. Luckily i tend tousr my phones gps speedo which is uncanaly accurate to my speedo when it was working. So at least its a fairly good benchmark.
