Fuel problem help needed

Hi all,

My NC30 has started to need switching to reserve on the fuel after only 90-100 miles. I have had it set up on the dyno after putting a full Tyga system on and this seems to have developed since then. Prior to this it would get to around the 140-150 mark before going on to reserve. Today it happened after 103 miles and then I immediately went to the petrol station and only got 11 litres in.

Any ideas why and whether once on reserve as it gets down the tank again the bike may 'run out' of fuel effectively with plenty still left in the tank?

check the vacuum hose from the fuel tap to the carbs and make sure its not kinked or restricted in any way. I had a kink in mine after having the carbs off and it did a very similar thing.

The quality of dyno men vary. Your bike may have run leanish which will give better efficiency, if your dyno chap has set the bike up for more power it's probably richer.
More fuel generally means poorer efficiency.

When filling up there was still 6 litres in the tank and reserve should come into play with much less remaining, around 3 litres I think.
The bike is a little thirstier as I would expect with more power found with a system and set up. I used Dynobike at Malton North Yorkshire and Paul has a very good reputation.

Thats normal, i get around 80-120 miles on my nc30 with tyga system and bigger jets, it just depends on how heavy you are on thr gas.

How many litres are you putting in on a fill up Rick after that 80-100 miles? I filled up at 100 miles today after needing to go onto reserve and only got 11 litres in so there was still loads in the tank.

Usually about £13-14 i dont pay any attension tbh i just reset the clock and off i go,

That's what it cost me today too roughly roughly!! Still leaves around 6 litres unaccounted for in the tank. Should reserve normally kick in around 3 litres to go?

Its not causing me any problems just wanted to see why it now needs reserve with around the 6 litres left and not 3 as before.

I don't know if the reserve is different on a 30, but on the 35 it's two litres. I had something similar recently, the bike went onto reserve early, but the fuel economy worked out the same. Turned out the fuel pipe had a nasty kink in it, and when the fuel got lower in the tank, it was unable to overcome the restriction and the bike was starved of fuel. I had a spare genuine tank to carb joint pipe fuel hose, fitted that, and the bike now hits reserve bang on the money again. Or as bang on as about 180-190kms is. It's what I've always managed, works out at roughly 40mpg.
