I have got a brand new unused BT92 front tyre (already has one on the back) but it is date stamped 2004. Will it still be ok to use?

If it has been stored properly then yes, but check it for glazing and cracking. If it is plastic then you do not want it..

Honda don't recommend brake lines and tyres past 6 years old.

Yours is what 8 years old now.

I assume Honda leave a decent safety gap incase something goes prematurely. Providing it has been stored carefully then it will probably be fine, but its a personal decision.

I've used older tyres in the past without issue but there has always been that slight worry in the back of my mind that it won't grip so well so never rode the bike quite the same with them on.

I always use newer tyres these days as its one less thing to worry about but im sure if I were in your situation id at least try it and see how it feels.

The rear on my blade is week 12 2005, it's a BT020.

I don't like it, it's squared off, hard, and gets really interesting when you open her up.

However you have 60 not 125 ponies, and your tyre has been stored hopefully correctly rather than left on the bike.

Give it a go but if it shows cracking when inflated, ditch it.

its on the bike now, looks fine, no cracking and doesnt feel like plastic. I can press into the rubber with my thumbnail so its not hardened and gone off. Having a problem with the brakes (see todays other thread) so will get out and test it when they are sorted.

Can you show me the reference/document, it is the brake line age I am more interested in as mine are 20 years old. I have never seen any service info on replacement.

Do they expand/split/perish/go soft/go hard?

Hey, yes I will dig it out. I will assume it could be a combination of all three. From memory the line read something like "deterioration of the hose"

I guess there is potential for a failure..my NC24 (1987) had its original hoses but the one was actually flexing a little under braking so I replaced them. They were also hard as nails aha!
