NC30/35 LED rear lights

Some of you may have seen my bike thread and seen the LED light unit I made.

Well it hasn't worked very well and half the LED's now don't work so I've had to revert back to standard.

But I have just found 3 sellers on yahoo japan who are making much more professional items that do nearly the same thing.

http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w78965589

http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w74448554

http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f115057244

However I think I'd still want the brake light and standard running light set up how I did mine.

(Running light making a rectangle/square around the outside and the brake light in the middle of it, see my bike thread if you can't visualise what I mean)

Now to get onto why I posted this, I want to gauge interest in a potential group buy of these units.

Whether you want the unit to act as standard or as I described is up to you IF a manufacturer/seller agrees to do both options or the way I described of course.

The units do seem pricey, average 7,000 yen (approx £55). But with a group buy we could probably get this price down a bit but then have to obviously pay a middle man in japan plus shipping etc. So I think it might still work out at about £50-£60 a unit depending on shipping, middle man fees and import duty etc.

I wouldn't be able to initially fund this group buy so everyone involved would have to put money in upfront to a neutral account to pay for them.

If you are interested stick yourself below so I can get an approximate number to approach a middle man/manufacturer with.

If anyone has any hints/tips or whatever, or even a this is a stupid idea comment please post as I want honesty :peace:

FWIW, this is the LED conversion for my GPX, square outline for tail lights and filled centre for brake lights as you describe. The photo doesn't do the tail light justice as the lens is curved but you get the idea. Cost me about £15 in materials plus about three hours in labour.

I'm happy to do the conversion for 30s/35s if people can send me a standard unit to modify. I did some 30 ones about 12 months ago and they sold quickly on eBay.

Have you seen my attempt? Not very professional, and still puzzled as to why half the LED's don't work as I've inspected it but it all looks fine to me....

The ones you made previously did they involve any hacking away at the unit at all or just splitting it to get into it?

I can send you my standard unit but the insides are a little modded, not sure if this would affect it at all, can put up some pictures if need be?

Plus any idea on price?

The ones I did last year weren't perfect. I had to heat the units to split them and managed to wrinkle the edges of the lens. Thankfully, you don't see those bits

All I did was use thin white plastic to make the bases and drilled holes for the LEDs to mount in to. I glued them in, put the resistors on and wired them all up. I had to modify the bulb holders so one could take a blanking plug and the other a grommet for the sub loom.

You're welcome to send yours but remember I'll need the sub loom with the plug :peace:

Cost, parts plus £20 will do as you're 400GB

Why not pay £20 for the ducati ones and mod them to fit into the nc30 housing?

Honestly just don't like how they're set up, wouldn't use the integrated indicators for starters and don't see the point in having the LEDs unless you can tell its LEDs.
To be honest I just really want the running lights and brake lights set up like I made, looks much cooler IMO :peace:

Don't have to use the indicators if you don't want to.
