does this sound normal?

I (think??) I have inserted a link to a video of my engine running. It has been stood just over a week (been on holiday) and struggled to start (I had to bump it). It has a bit of a knocking noise and I wondered if any of you thought it might be serious?
I plan on checking the valve clearances at the weekend but if any need changing then the engine will be put back together and used for a week till replacements arrive and then swap them out. I need the bike for work so its awkward to take it off the road. I have done the carb mods and will be changing the oil when I do the clearances. I have only had it 4 weeks and plan on doing all the service jobs over the next few weekends.

Doesn't sound too bad in that video. Have you checked the oil? It may be a little low.

I will check the oil level in a bit when I can get in the garage. what are the main causes of a miss fire? I was going to check the plugs when I did the valve clearances at the weekend.

Southside mate - S8 ;-)

unless that is caused by loose exhausts or something else, then my paranoia says possible big end bearings.

Check oil level asap..if it is low you might be fucked..

On the bright side..you live near Geoff and he usually has some very keenly priced motors going spare.

I'd offer to come have a look but am properly busy with work (apart from forum surfing now and again)

Might be able to swing over tomorrow on my way back from work for a quick listen and see if it sounds the same as 3 bikes I have owned that have had big end failure..... 2 NCs and an Exup!

is the oil measured without screwing the dipstick in? if so then it is on the minimum mark!
I think the bike best be left home tomorrow and hope the missus doesnt need her car so I can get some oil and do a change tomorrow nite when I get home.
If I cant get her car and have to go to work on the bike (less than 20 miles round trip) would it hurt to top it up with car engine oil and then do a full change tomorrow nite? I think the viscosity is different but dont know how that would effect it???

it might knacker your clutch.

Halfords will have some bike oil and are open late enough to get over and buy some.

10w40 semi synth will do it..

measured resting the dipstick on the case, not screwed in.

Ok, so after searching in the garage I have found some 10w40 semi synth but the manual also says use type API grade SE, SF or SG and the oil I have is type API grade SL CF.
What does this mean?
sorry for all the questions but the missus needs her car tomorrow so it looks like i'm gunna need to use the bike!
If the API type is not suitable then I might risk riding to work in the morning then buying the correct type and putting it in at work. I havnt got any transport tonite to get to Halfolds so i'm a bit stuck.
