I've just received some Thundercat forks that I ordered for my FZR400 3EN2. The forks fit fine in my existing yokes (a little taller) (My R1 calipers bolt up nicely too).

The wheel spindle is thicker on the Thundercat, so would need machining to fit my standard 1WG front wheel.

My questions is, is it worth fitting a Thundercat front wheel? - what's the difference between the 1WG and T-Cat front wheel in terms of sizes?

If I mod the front wheel to a T-Cat, should I then change the back wheel? - I want to keep my 3EN1 braced swing arm (Unless there is another braced arm that's a straight fit), so does anyone know if I can fit a better rear to compliment a T-CAT front, without to much hassle?

The standard front on a 1wg is 110 on a 3" rim. The T'cat is 120 on a 3.5" rim and it has a 160 rear ... same as the 3TJ. I doubt you'll get a 160 in the 3en1 swinger.

If you fit a T'cat front wheel you'll need the brake diskies too as they have the later Yam wide central hole fitting. You might have a look at an early R6 front. At least you can sell your 300mm disks to ofset the cost.

Thanks Boris, thats great advice. - I phoned round today for a TCat front wheel and it's out of my budget for a little while as they all seem around 60 - 80 quid without discs and there's a few other things I need to get for the project first. - I'm going to change the bearings in my 1WG wheel and bore out my speedo drive to fit the TCAT wheel spindle for now. (You'll probably see my other post about bearing removal problems!).

you couldn't fit a liner in the forks to suit the FZR spindle ???

Maybe check and see if a 3TJ spindle is bigger ???

That sounds like a plan, sadly, while the board was down last night, I entered into an epic battle twince man and bearing. - Eventually, I got them out and replaced them today with new versions and a home made spacers. - Just got to bore the speedo out now or mod the TCAT speedo and it's there.

does the T'cat use a speedo from the front wheel ... isn't it off the gearbox ??? may that's an R6

I think that's definitely an R6 as my mates old TCAT was speedo driven off the front wheel.

Well that's cool - one less thing to worry about.

This should be a worthwhile upgrade and if you've the rear too then th bike will handle a lot better especially when you get it set up, remember not to go for a "hard" setting get it "supple"

The bearings I fitted (which let me drop the 1WG wheel back in the T/Cat forks, have turned out to be 3mm to wide on the internal diameter. No one makes a bearing with a 42 od, 17 id and 13mm width. When I find a bearing that meets one or two of these measurements, it's off on the other.

I'm now hunting for a T/Cat front wheel as it's by far the cheaper and easier option than all the machining mods I can think of.

I think the FZS 600 uses the same forks ... not sure about the spindle size though
