I'm planning on using the underside of the tank as my air of lid when I get it on the road.

I have a set of hrc modded RVF carbs, bought off reverse cylinder jim that I have been told jetted to run wih no lid, can ppl let me know what they think about this kind of set up?

I also plan on running it with a K&N filter which I already have and an under carb scoop to help direct the air, I was thinking of cutting the front of the air tray to help with breathing, what are ppls thoughts on this?

I am also after some advice on the best way to seal the edges of the tank and what improvement this would make?

If its the carbs i think they are then they will be fitted with 130 mains, if so then yes no airbox lid. Both myself and CMSMJ1 have run these carbs with just a thin foam filter. I also used a RVF airbox base which has no front to the air tray like the 30 does.

Is the under carb scoop you mention the HRC air tray? if so why would you cut it? its designed to give air to the carbs.

They run well, little boggy down low but nice from 6k upwards.

I never bothered sealing the underside of the tank when i run them but have used this method on my track bike.

Its just a sheet of closed cell foam cut in strips with double sided tape to attach it to the frame, makes a nice seal.

Sorry, yes I meant cutting the front of the air box base not cutting the hrc air tray that goes in between the carbs and engine.

Think they are the same carbs you're thinking about as James said a couple of forum members had used them before him.

Can you remember what else has been done for the carbs, I know James didn't touch them, just be nice to know what's in there without stripping them down.

So you reckon ill be all good to dremal the front of the airbox bottom which closes the front up near the headstock?

All of this will only make a couple of extra bhp if you do it right and will sacrifice the smoothness of the low down power.

lol low down power is over rated mate x

To be fair it wasnt unrideable low down just a little boggy but i was using them on a stage 3 RLR motor which i doubt helped the low down driveability.

From what i remember they had,

Short stacks all round
HRC slide springs
130 mains
Maybe 1mm needle shims but cant remember

No idea to be honest, open carb setups can be a nightmare to setup. Id run it as they are and see how it runs then maybe get it on a dyno.
