Howdoo chaps,

I noticed that my fuel tank was wobbly, closer inspection reveals that the buffers/cushions are missing, so I've got new ones but a couple of questions since I can't see what I need to know in any image searches.

Where are the mounted on everybody else's? I know where they fit bit I'm unsure if they would have been mounted higher towards the top or bottom of the seam of the tank.

Mine has a rubber strip on each side of the seam/lip of the fuel tank, is this original? I'm wondering if a previous owner fitted them trying to solve the wobbly tank issue.

Rubber strip is normal.

Which tank do you have? I seem to remember them being in a slightly different place on the 89 K model tahn the later bikes, but they generally sit at the ends of the rubber strip, is there no gum / tape marks on the tank where they were secured before as they are held on with gummy tape.

Ah cheers, it's an '89. The thing that confused me is that I couldn't see the rubber strip on any web pictures and also the strip goes right to the end so I'll have to cut it shorter to fit the rubber buffers.

erm..

thats not right.

The rubber strips run from the front of the tank around the sides right.

The rubber blocks fit half way down the tank.

Do not cut original parts to fit new ones, that obviosuly means you are putting it together wrong.

Ah right, the rubber strips were glued in place by a previous owner which is what threw me, I think, as you say, the long rubber strips should be fitted higher up and the buffers near the end.
