Im pretty new to my bike VFR400 NC30 and I've got a quick question that hopefully some one will be able help me with.

I recently gave the bike an oil change and since then I seem to be getting what I can only discribe as clutch slip, when applying throttle the bike pulls cleanly to start with, then at around 6/7k ish it makes alot of noise but doesnt go! It feels excally the same as when my clutch was buggered on my old car.

So my question is, could the clutch be on the way out? Is it the clutch plates that need replacing?

What oil did you use?

semi or full synthetic?

Sometimes, some clutches get a bit of slip after an oil change - some oils are worse than others

If it does not clear up then I'd probably change my oil, or fit another clutch spring (there are 3 std, fitting another gives a strong lever feeling and a very very grippy clutch!)

Anyone ever hear of running a bit of hyrdaulic fluid (like transmission fluid) through the crankcase to clean things up? I just heard of this and think it is a tad bit of BS....

Yes I know this.

Cheapest way to clean things up is to run some diesel oil through the box, stock 10/40 diesel oil (semi / fully syth either is ok) will do.

Diesel oil has a higher concentration of detergents as the fuel is dirtier.

But in all honesty, unless you have a fault then there is no need, modern fuel burns really clean, if you change the oil regulraly you shouldnt get shit buidling up.

Chances are your clutch was buggard before, the new oil has fresh detergents and has cleaned the clutch up a little.

If it is still slipping take it apart and check it.

Only some fully synth / part synth car oils that imrpove fuel milage will cuase clutch slippage with a good clutch ( due to moly grease in the oil to imrpove lubrication)

I'll stick with it with it for a couple of weeks and if it doesn't get any better i'll whip the plates out and have a look, whats the best place to get them from?

Get it out, its shite, caused loads of issues on my race RVF, knackered clutch, after years of using motul 9100 changed this year, soon changed back, lesson learned.
