Needing to do this as got a wobble from the front end and a click when I am stationary and push down on the forks - suspected head race.

How easy is it? Any specialist tools required?

Detailed how-to available as this would be a first for me.

checked wheel bearings first ? but if your doing head bearings fairly straight forward hardest bit is removing and fitting the inner race on the stem. the old bearings and outer races can be used along with a drift with some careful use to fit the new ones . the outers in the headstock are easy out but dont clout the headstock . honda o/e bearings and seals are about £60 taper pattern stuff half that. setting the bearings is a bit trial and error honda recommend using a tool to torque them or a spring balance , however you do it they usually need resetting after a few thousand miles anyway.

41mm socket
c spanner a good quality bearing grease drift/ steel chisel etc and also sockets can be used to fit the the outer races ensure they are tapped in squarely and fully seated other than that its a doddle to do

I'm just putting my bearings back together after cleaning and inspection and I was wondering about that 41mm socket. It seems like a very arbitrary size, are there really 41mm sockets? The hardware store had 1 5/8" which is 41.275mm, is that what it is? I guess 1 5/8" should be close enough in any case.

Its pretty simple mate,

Remove yokes.
Drift out bearing races, your notice small cut outs in the frame to place the drift.
Turn bottom yoke upside and drift off lower bearing.
Drift new bearing races into frame, use an old race to save damaging the new ones.
Freeze bottom yoke, place new bearing in water tight bag and heat in boiling water.
Slide bottom seal onto bottom yoke along with the bearing, the bearing will probably need a little force either from a suitable drift or place upside down in a vice and hit yoke with hammer.
Grease up the bearings and place bottom yoke in the frame.
Place top bearing in followed by top dust seal after greasing it up(the bearing not the seal).
Then the castlated nuts and tighten according to what bearing your using, OE rollerball or tapered?

So do we know what the torque is for roller and taper?

Torque for the roller is in the manual, you dont torque the taper bearing up just nip it to take any play out. If you torque it up your crush the bearing.
