choke cable

Discovered my choke cable is broken - level was very loose - opened section on handle bar and it is broken just before the tip that holds it in place

Tried soldering it as a repair but it broke again as soon as I tested it.

Is it possible to repair - reason I ask this as I tried David Silverspares (got a choke cable from them before - about 3 years ago , but they replied to say:
The NC24 choke cable is unfortunately a discontinued part, hopefully we may source these again in the future.
I had a look at Wemoto but same thing

Anyone know if I can get a hold of one of these or is it a matter of getting one made some where

You can get kits to replace cables. I got one for a clutch cable. Most bike factors places should have them in stock for bikes and scooters. Can't see using one for a choke being an issue. Just make sure the cable is of the same gauge. It should come supplied with different sized ends (nipples), with grub screws that are used to terminate the cable. You can just use your original cable outer, or cut the supplied one to length.

Something like this.

First one I found, you might be able to get cheaper! Just make sure the nipples are the same size and the cable the same gauge!

Speak to Rick O he's got a mod which puts it up near the dash like the 35.

Or use a cable tie on the lever and aim it out the side of the frame and pull and hold to start alot of race bikes do this ;)

Choke on the 35 is nowhere near the dash - it's just above the idle adjuster in the left side fairing infill! ;)

Could be worse, on my TZR 125 it's a pull knob (oooer) on the side of the carb, so you have to reach around and under the left side of frame to find the thing. Newbies to the bike often refused to believe it even had a choke, which led to lots ending up at the local workshop because they allegedly wouldn't start in the cold!

It's the NC29 that mounts it on the top yoke.

Here's the info on Rick's replacements: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=34227&p=246806#p246806

On the NC24 its part of the switcgear like many other mid 80s Hondas.

You can make your own cable fairly easily if you can get the appririate nipples for the cables.

You need to do a good soldering job, splay the cable, plenty of flux and a good solder.

Here is an NC21 choke cable on ebay, its 2nd hand but 4.99.

Should fit no problems.

Thats briliant, thanks all for quick replies.
I'll have a go at repairing/making my own if I can't source one quickly
