Race Pattern shift on Cheap Rear Sets......

Hello,
I've just bought an NC30 ex race bike for track days.
At the moment it has some of those cheap rear sets and has a race pattern shift. I want a standard road pattern shift and wanted to know if I could kind of turn the linkage upside down?
It looks as though the linkage would then be tight against the sets themselves.

Just basically wanted to know if i can do this or do i need to buy some new rear sets (I see Rick Oliver does some at mid £100's)

Cheers in advance from a new member..

Hi, welcome aboard.
Not sure which sets you got, but I think it is as you say, simply flip the linkage upsidedown to revert to standard shifting. Have a lil play with it to see how it'll go, but it should work fine.

It'd be easier to tell with a picture but yes should be fine, here for example are ours in 'road' shift.

I would also say however to give the 'race' shift a go, I thought it would be impossible but it took about 2 laps to get used to it.

Easy to do, the knuckle on the end of the rod that attaches to the gear selector just needs to be turned 180 degrees. Easy if there's space within the limits of your rear sets.

There's a dot on the link that needs to line up with the dot on the spline for proper gear selection (within reason of your rearsets).

I blew up an engine first time on the track with race pattern (pressure mmmkay!?), but don't let that put you off. :D

Cheers for that. I'll have a play with it later.
It's good to know I can just ask!!

The knuckle can sit on the shaft that comes out of the motor any which way to suit where you want the pedal to be.

It's difficult with some rearsets. Sometimes the shift linkage doesn't have enough clearance from the actual rearsets themselves. A spacer on the ball joints will do the job usually. I've run into trouble when moving too far away from that little dot - there's not enough throw to select gears.
