Suspension upgrade 2TK SP
As some may know I acquired Mark's 1987 2TK SP.
This model has a remote reservoir on rear shock as standard fitment.
The shock itself is getting on a bit now and is very tired looking !!!.
Now as I already have 2 x 3EN2's with the 06/07 R6 shock upgrades on them I was looking for something with a remote reservoir to upgrade with.
I have seen the YZF 600 Thunderace shock which has a remote and has eyelet at top and fork at base but have no measurements as a comparison. !!!
Anyone upgraded the standard SP shock ???
Refurbing existing shock would involve replating shock body, replacing corroded hydraulic link pipe, coating or replacing spring, rebuilding, gassing and oiling so does not seem feasable.
I know the Swedish option but even at "trade" prices it is going to be over £400 for a custom build.
Any ideas ????

Re: Suspension upgrade 2TK SP
Measure the shock first - it's shorter than the 3TJ and see whats about
If you did want the swedish or indeed the klu klux klan route you can have a secondhand one rebuilt

Re: Suspension upgrade 2TK SP
Now then Boris,how's it going.?
Havent got a 600 thunderace shock to measure without buying one (defeats object)
Rebuilding stock shock-??? Who would replate a shock outer body and adjuster mechanism?? Just a no go area !!
Tolerances too precise for even chemical de -corrosion and replating. Its a rusty mess,no disrespect intended. Did you find how much for that false air intake cover?
Someone on here must have upgraded previously, its just getting their attention.
One kind sole had a parts fiche for this model,pm'ed him but I dont think he is a participating member any longer.
May have mis read what you mean about rebuild--Costs even more to alter and rebuild a used swedish shock than to assemble custom one new. Ohlins never listed a stock unit for this,.
K.K.K. unknown to me !!!

Good call Steve, will work on this if no other answers forthcoming,.cagiva996 wrote:i think boris means wp or white power as they used to be known.according to this custom fighters shock chart the t/cat shock is 360mm.handy this - http://www.customfighters.com/forums/sh ... hp?t=12827
Still cannot work out how K.K.K. = White Power.
Dont have access to W.P. dealership so would not be cost effective.
The 3HE gen cover you supplied needed inside stator mount removing with grinder and a 8mm dia cap screw plug made to fit external hole (about 10 mins work ) and now resides on 3EN2 c/case and looks the part.
Could do with a remote reservoir option on this within 5 days before a Cheap USA R6 shock deadline passes, will be vexed to miss it if no other options forthcoming.!!!!

Yes .... white power
You could put a R6 shock in there and just keep the canister as a dummy

Re: Suspension upgrade 2TK SP
how long is your shock bill there are a good few yam shocks that could do the job, also some gsxr and even honda
shocks dont need to much fiddling to fit..just as an aside it may be worth enquiring how much a service for the the shock is.the last one i had serviced/regfased was about 130 quid and i had the remote reervoir hose changed for a longer one.if you have a spring compressor you could remove the spring yourself and get it blasted and paint/powder coat it.you could see some change out of 200 quid and keep the bike looking stock with the original shock.but if you need the bike ready quick that all may not be an option.i may have a standard 3tj shock somewhere in the hellhole that is my spares caravan but i think it may be too long for yours.

Christ, I should have got that straight off !!
There are enough dummies in my garage without adding more as slow uptake of K.K.K.= White Power testifies:(note to self " dont post whilst drinking").
Steve ,the shock body has very deep corrosion so could not be restored to an acceptable finish.
I havent even started on the other 3EN2 never mind the TK but a man in USA has given me a good option on a R6 unit but it runs out next week !,just looking to see how easy to source another remote type would be before then.
Worst case scenario =Buy R6 unit and resell if not utilized. It means dead money for a bit though.3Tj shock is too long.See you posted up a spares manual.A fellow member offered to email the 2TK SP one to another member on here about 2 years ago but I dont think he is on here now as I got no response from a pm.
