Had a look threw the forum for a topic on exhaust... i cant seem to find one...

i dont normally like making loads of topics,

Can any other down pipes fit on the 400? as mine have holes in one of the pipes so i dont think it can be welded.

No, because of the exup you need 400 pipes. The only good thing is that the 87 SP 2TK, and the 3en1 will fit.
This is one of those parts that you don't get a lot of choice with, if the pipes are good buy them.
Because the 600 engine is taller th downpipes are longer so if you fit them they'll melt the bodywork and reduce the ground clearance.

This is the main reason people fit a 600 engine

As the 600 does not have an exup valve you loose alot of power at low revs and have to rev it to get the bike moving.

The 600 pipes are taller and can melt to bottom of the fairing, but there is a solution.

There are higher temp ones available if you want to make extra sure

And glue it to the interior of the bottom fairing. I did this for a friend and 4 years on there is no sign of any melting.

Yes he had 600 down pipes, the 400 ones had rotted away around the collars and had far too many pin holes.

I've got what looks like a cut and shut stainless system from another bike on my 1WG here, and it's spare because I'm sticking a 600 engine in it. Is it any use? You'd need the full system I think because it's a 4-2-1.

Have you ever tried 1WG systems on the 3TJ??? Only asking as I found a set of headers for a 1WG on ebay

At £105 for a set delivered (even if from the states) thats not too bad. There is a local place to me that should be able to make up the missing mid pipe. Not worried about the missing exup as I have a spare BDK TCI unit.

I would imagine you have also seen the Swona/Mercury exhaust on ebay for which the seller is asking £250 + P&P - undecided as to if its 'worth' it.......

Hi Chris,

I haven't tried a 1WG system on a 3TJ but I have tried a 3HE (600) Micron system on a 3TJ with a 4JH engine and it hung too low under the bike. I did see that system on ebay and I suppose it's worth it, given the work that goes into stuff like that and the fact they're pretty rare.

Ok. I see what you mean by the Mercury/Swona system. I appreciate you get what you pay for.

With that in mind and one eye to the future........Would BDK headers for a 3tj 400 still be ok to use if you fit a 4JH foxeye lump....I have a tax rebate coming my way, but it would piss the better half off

What bike are they off? and do they hang low? and are they the same as the original pipe? 52mm? for link pipe to new exhaust?
