Gear lever ball joint

Having received a replacement gear lever from Ebay I noticed that the gear lever ball joint wobbles about where it is (i think) pressed into the lever itself.
Hopefully an uploaded photo will show where I mean.

Has anyone else had this and what did you do? I`m thinking of introducing a hammer with a socket to the other side where there is a dome but if there`s a better way I`m all ears.
Any help would be appreciated.

It's rather worn then. I'd imagine the bike it was fitted to has been down the road for that to happen. The best option IMO would be to either clamp it into the socket and re-peen the reverse side or weld the reverse side.

If it's loose there, I guess the actual ball is loose too.

How about a replacement joint? Drill the old one out and put a bolt and nut through the hole.

Thank you for your advice. I tried hammering with a socket but that was pretty ineffectual so i will have a go at welding the reverse domes side.
The socket moves ok, its just where the joint is pressed through the gear lever.
Still, onwards and upwards. Just another excuse for my mate to get his welder out and for another play with the dremel
