bike stalling/jumping at low revs (3-6000rpm)

Post by ruddiger »

hi all,

i recently got a gsxr400 gk76a model,

have a bit of trouble with it,

basicaly when i pull away from a stop it struggles when going through from bout 2-6000 rpm,
it is ok sometimes if i rev the balls out of it and let the clutch go slightly but that aint too good for my gearbox,
sometimes it just splutters a bit other times it cuts right out! which aint fun when on motorways etc.

it also cuts out when slowing down sometimes but same again if i keep revving a lot is keeps it going,
when it does cut out it will only start when i have the throttle open the full way but will only give about 1.5000 rpm and cuts again once i let the throttle go.

i checked a few posts and it could be the Rectifier? but im not sure

has anybody had similar probs or heard of this happening?

cheers

My NC sounded very similar when the rectifier packed up. I felt/ acted like fuel starvation but a rectifier and battery later, all is well.

yea, from reading a few posts it sounds like it could be the rectifier as i had the carbs done not too long ago.

how easy/hard is it to change the rectifier and if i change it do i need a new battery too?

if the rectifier is dead wont the lights dim whenm not reving the bike? dont think that is happening!

When mine went I tried to keep the bike going as long as I could as thought it was fuel related, I got about 2 miles before everything was dead! The battery was completely fried. So I'm not sure on other symptoms I'm afraid.

To change on an NC30 it's very simple, rear fairings off, 2 bolts, 1 clip connector, job done. The battery is just there too, 1 rubber strap and 2 clamps.

The gsxr might be similar. :? :D
Good luck.

I don't think it's your rec/reg at all. If it had packed up then your bike would not run and if it didn't blow the main fuse first it would blow the battery.

I still think you need to be looking at the carbs, particularly the O rings and the idle mixtures. Getting the plugs out and checking the colour of them would give you a good idea about what's going on with your fuelling.

Agree with carbs, 3-6k is likely to be o-rings and/or float heights, be worth taking the float bowls off and check all the carbs are set to the same float heights, (had me head scratching for a while  )
