As a new 400 owner and recent member of this site I have searched numerous posts regarding the R6 conversion which suggest the RED spring model (owners using it as a generic description) is the most compatible;



This is listed as an 2003 to 2005 5SL fitment.
However in posts the images seem to show this type;



This is listed a 2002 era fitment.



Is the adjustment cylinder on the 2003/5 unit going to foul ?
I understand that an adaptor for the bottom is the most technically correct fitment along with 2 x 5mm spacers but as existing dog bones have been cut and extended I was hoping to replace with +25mm replacements.
The spring itself may be replaced at a later date depending on how harsh the suspension seems!

You don't need the adapter for the 3en2 (that's for the 3TJ) you will need the dogbones though

Cheers Boris,just trawling other sites posts for info on this.Now in one of your old posts you say +25mm bones,whereas Karla suggests -- 25mm in one of her postings.Which is the way to go ?
Bear in mind the existing setup has a prehistoric shock off lord knows what, with cut and shut bones so Ive got no reference.
Are 06/07 the only suitable years for this mod? Bloke wants a 1er for a decent looking one but his,mine and yourselfs opinion on what is decent will probably vary considerable (no offence intended whatsoever),maybe a touch too much?What do you reckon?

+25mm seat height might be referred to differently because you shorten the the dog bones to do it ... quiery it with Kayla but I think she produces bones with different holes so you get a choice.

100 is ok for a shock I suppose, you could wait a while and see what else turns up ... bear in mind the EMC shock I have on my 3TJ is £300-350

Seen Karla's variable dog bones-good idea for altering ride height easily.Her workshops are quite near too!
Just seemed typical that that model shock was twice the price of all other years (some even NOS).

A replacement shock with high / low speed damping .... for £100 - or - you could keep your old one

You could roll the dice a bit and wait a couple of months when the racing stops and people start preping next years bikes, you might get one cheaper then. Or not.

You need a shock from a 2006-on (2CO and 13S models) R6 with the fork bottom fitting. You also need some dogbones that are around 12mm shorter than standard to get the ride height back. It's not ideal, but it works quite well- better than a 20-odd year old shock of unknown provenance anyway! To be honest, £100 is still pretty good value for money for such a good shock.

edit- you can keep an eye out on ebay US as well, but you usually lose any savings made in buying a cheaper shock in customs charges

See I only paid half that for the Ohlins on the Zxr.

Mind you cannot tell if its got a fork or a spigot-surely there cannot be both types for the same year.
(knowing my luck it'll be forked when it gets here anyhow!)
