NC 29 airbox sourcing?

Hi folks, its been a while since i was on here, been away from the 400 fold and onto bigger things, though the itch has come back to have a honda 400 :)

Anyway, i am in the position of obtaining a CBR 400 NC29 that needs a lot of love and restoration, which is the whole point of what i am looking to do as i want to keep the bike after i sell my cb1000r in a couple of years.

The bike is missing a few bits from the cursory inspection i have given it at the breakers, the main bits are a fuel tank and the airbox as far as i could see, possibly clocks may also be missing, but they could just have been off the bike.

The main issue is an airbox, are these particularly difficult to pick up, as i dont want to be buying something i simply wont be able to finish due to lack of parts, i dont mind ebay, OEM, pattern etc etc, and i am happy stripping a bike and totally restoring so its not something i want done in a month, this will take a couple of years.

I just wondered what the sort of frequency these types of parts turn up?

I will sort out a good old build thread once i have the thing purchased :)

I have had 2 NC30's so its time to try the other Honda gem :)

Cheers all

Well I have to buy the bike first, but I would be looking for the whole unit, the 2 halves.

But cheers as I may pick up bits in stages. :-)

Hi Rick, most parts can be sourced from breakers or eBay, air box units come up frequently although prices do vary as do most other items, some parts can be scarce and expensive if you want new stuff. Your best finding a parts fiche or going to CMSNL and looking through their parts book online, this will give you a clear idea on what you need. Other places you might like to browse would be David Silvers or Lings if you want new. There is also Graeme France Racing who deals in new and used parts for the nc's, find him on this site.

Cheers Durka,

That's the plan, getting bits like bolts n screws for things like the tank where it meets frame or the airbox bolts for joining to the assembly etc.

Having a list of parts to see what is available new, I used kings for parts when I was restoring a Honda integra, always handy for odd bolts n stickers etc.

Will have a good idea what I need soon.

Thanks for all the tips though :D

Cheers Graeme,

I will probably pester you For bits, but will wait and see what i have, it depends if the breaker is asking realistic cash, and then i can find out if its an L, N or R model etc, though i imagine wont be too many differences.

Really looking forward to a project and making it all shiny and rideable again.

Though deciding if i want to make it like original style, i.e. chinese FG panels or Tyga style.

as the bikes panels are basically all missing on the bike.

Thanks

Oh thats a thought Graeme,

Do you do Nitron or Maxton shocks and front fork re-spring kits for the NC29, i got a similar set up from Rick Oliver for my NC30 about 5 years ago, and getting the cycle parts tip top is first priority.

Cheers

Hi folks,

well i am hopefully picking the bike up next weekend.

Its G Reg Gull arm NC29.

Its missing front fairing, ignition barrell, clocks, rad, exhaust, airbox and tank.

I can get pretty much all of this easily enough, the main issue i think is the barrell and clocks.

I had a look on CMNSL and i see i can get new sets of barrels, tank lock etc as a set, the only worry being how i get the key cut?

As for clocks, i assume i can get a set second hand and adjust the mileage to match the MOT records??

As i want to be legal etc, but would like an accurate reading etc.

I assume adding in a new barrell is easy enough as no immobilisers etc back then?

All excited to be getting a good project. will be elbow deep in honda soon enough
