I have been sniffing about at rear shock options for an NC30 race bike. I am in Australia and Nitron has no presence here but I was surprised to see a few suspension workshops mentioning them for servicing. So I called one.

As soon as I mentioned Nitron he dissed it. He described them as a "short term" shock saying the (erm) body was aluminium as when the anodising on that goes you may as well "Chuck it out". Apparently, you want a non-aluminium body.

I know Rico O sells em.

Most performance rear shocks are anodized aluminium body, in fact most shocks in general are aluminium body including Japanese OEM.

Have a two way fitted to my road bike, bought it through R.O, now 2 years old and no complaints. My understanding from conversations with Nitron in the UK is that they do not have an Australian representative, although they were planning to appoint someone. You can contact them direct.

Went with R.O.'s recommendation and the price landed in Oz was better than anything of comparable quality I could buy here i.e. Ohlins, Wilbers etc.

Thanks magg, "Mr Diss" was recommending Wilbur shocks from Germany over Japanese or Ohlins.

The Nitrons do seem like good value but I was a bit concerned that nobody here would be able to do anything with them. Seems like there may be a few people here and there.

Do you use the two way for street, track or race?

Street use, been awhile since I was in contact with Dora so they may now have an Oz agent. Anyway Nitron no different to other brands, so should be able to find someone here that can work on them. Yo could always send back to UK for servicing, which was a suggestion made by Dora.

Prices may have changed a bit but from memory paid about $800 including freight. Nitron will send you one direct, contact Dora.

Thanks magg, if they can stand that blue mountains cold/wet/heat then they must be pretty resilient - unless of course your 400 is in a glass box in the front room. :-)

NC30 has run up 10000km on the Nitron in 13 months, hope to add another 200km tomorrow if the weather holds.

Just kidding mate. Honestly, I had no doubt. Actually, been keeping an eye out for a good value NC30 in good nick for the street.

I dont think id be going to that place you called for anything, seriously a shock is a shock any suspension specialist could service it regardless of who made it, sounds like he's just trying to push sales on shocks he supplies.

I know some of the Ohlins shocks have a drawn steel body.

Not sure if it is better though.

I guess the aluminium body could corrode but Nitron supply every part of the shock so even if something did happen to the body im sure you could get a replacement, they are very corrosion resistant anyhow.

Maybe somebody else knows something different but ive not heard anything bad about them, quite the opposite infact.

Having used to work at Nitron i have a bit of experience with this, i have seen shocks that have come in for servicing that have done alot of mileage and even the very first shocks they made still have the anodising intact, they are also really easy to rebuild so i would avoid that guy you spoke to in future because he hasnt got a clue what hes talking about IMO. And before anybody says i am biased because i worked there, i am not i cannot stand the boss and would advise anyone not to give the w@nker thier money, however they are very good shocks for the price and the lads that actually build them are top blokes, Scott the guy who does the majority of the Bike shocks takes real pride in his work.
